I Couldn't Resist...

...posting another picture of my adorable child. Here he is on Christmas Eve looking handsome as ever.

How Cute Are We??

Seriously....I love this picture!! Katie took it on Christmas Day...I can't believe how old Edwin looks! He's growing up so fast...but at least he still likes to cuddle with mommy. Hopefully Katie will have some more pictures for me soon (hint hint) and I'll be sure to post them here. Enjoy one of the last few days of 2007!

Edwin's Progress Report

Yesterday Ed and I took Edwin to the doctor for his 9-month checkup. Yes, I said 9 months!!!! Everything was great, and Dr. Carter (not Noah Wylie...this is a female Dr. Carter for all you ER fans out there) said Edwin is doing wonderful. He's crawling, he's pulling up to standing now...and she thinks he'll be walking within 4 to 6 weeks. Look out world, Edwin is on the move! Here are his stats for 9 months:

Height: 28.5 inches
Weight: 21 pounds

In other words....perfect! Not that I'm biased or anything. And since I don't have any pictures on my computer here at work, you'll have to settle for this funny cartoon I found.

The Real Christmas Story

I love Christmas. For so many reasons....spending time with family, holiday traditions, yummy food, gifts, etc. I've always known and understood that the real reason for celebrating Christmas is the birth of Jesus. But this year, Christmas took on a whole new meaning for me because my relationship with the Lord is so much stronger. Yesterday (Christmas Day), I was rushing around the house trying to get everything ready for when the family came over. But I made sure to stop what I was doing, pick up my bible, and read the "real" Christmas story.

Luke 2: 1-20

The Birth of Jesus
1In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2(This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3And everyone went to his own town to register.
4So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

The Shepherds and the Angels
8And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ[a] the Lord. 12This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
13Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
15When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."
16So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

I have heard and read this story more times than I can count...but this year more than ever I'm so grateful for it. I'm so grateful that we are able to celebrate the birth of our Savior more than two thousand years later. So even though it's technically a day late, Merry Christmas everybody!!!!

(I'll post some pictures in the next few days and tell you all about our wonderful time )

Butt Measurement

A man and his wife were working in their garden one day and the man looks over at his wife and says,'Your Butt is getting really big, I mean really big.I bet your butt is bigger than the barbecue grill.'

With that he proceeded to get a measuring tape and measure the grill and then went over to where his wife was working and measured his wife's bottom.'Yes, I was right; your butt is two inches wider than the barbecue grill!!!'

The woman chose to ignore her husband. Later that night in bed, the husband is feeling Frisky. He makes some advances towards his wife who completely brushes him off.

'What's wrong?' he asks.

She answers: 'Do you really think I'm going to fire up this big-ass grill for one little weenie?'

It Looks So Nice!

Check out these pictures of our new bedroom!! Well, the room itself isn't new, but the paint and the furniture are! Last week Ed painted the room and yesterday our Christmas present was delivered. I don't know if it's just our imagination, but we both think our bed is much more comfy now. We have matching night stands and a ginormous dresser. Now all we need to do is put up some pictures on the wall and it's all set. I'm so excited!!

Look Out World...Here I Come!!!

Edwin is changing so much every day!! Last weekend, he started to figure out how to crawl. And over the past week, he's pretty much mastered the art of getting from one side of the room to the other. It helps that he has such strong motivation too. Mom (Grandma) bought him the cutest toy at Kohl's. It's a singing Abomidable (?) Snowman that lights up and dances. Turn that sucker on and Edwin takes off like it's a race!!

I have another video just like this one from yesterday, but I fell asleep on the couch last night and didn't upload it. But I think you get the point. He can move!!! He also graduated to the big boy room at daycare...also known as the Infant II room. Basically, it means he can get into things, so he's in with the other movers and shakers. My baby is growing up :)

Ridiculously Excited

Oh my gosh! There's a baby on the way!!!!!!!! No, not me. My friend Rachel (from work) is pregnant with a baby girl...due this Saturday. She called her boss this morning to give us the great news. Her water broke!! She and her husband are at the hospital now, and we're just waiting for updates. This is so exciting!!!! And here's something funny. Yesterday, we were in Myrtle Beach with David & Jenny before they had to fly home. I bought Rachel's baby an adorable Christmas outfit with the intention of giving it to her today. I kept thinking that somehow I wouldn't be able to give it to her. I'm so glad I was right!! Yes, I'm ridiculously excited, but babies are sooooooooo wonderful. I'm so happy for her. Yesterday was the only day I saw her get a little frustrated that she was still pregnant. And I can totally relate because I was the same way right before I had Edwin. Now I just hope that she has the baby before we all go home for the day :)

Vacation!!!!!!!

My vacation officially begins in 4 minutes. Yeeeeee Hawwww!!!!!!!!!

DAVID AND JENNY ARE COMING!!!!!!

Yay! It's finally Tuesday and DJ & Jenny will be arriving in NC today. Well.....they'll be arriving in South Carolina at 11:20pm, so they might not technically make it over the border to North Carolina until after midnight. But who cares? They'll be here soon. I'm so excited for them to see Edwin...he's changed so much since we were in MN in June. I'm sure we'll be busy for the next few days, so I'll say Happy Thanksgiving a little early. And to get you in the festive mood...here's a cartoon that came in an email today. I love it!

So Sleepy

I realized I haven't posted a picture in a long time...so here's one that I took Thursday morning before leaving for work. Edwin was sick for almost a week, but is thankfully feeling better now. He did a lot of sleeping!

Not Always Easy

Every morning, I get an email from proverbs31.org with a daily devotional. This Wednesday's devotional really hit home for me. Just the title alone says so much..."Uncomfortable Christianity." (I encourage everyone to read the actual devotional). Basically the author talks about how it's easy to settle into our comfort zones and not step out in faith everyday. I've found that I do this....even when it just comes to declaring my faith. It makes people uncomfortable, it's not easy for some people to talk about. I'm embarassed to admit that I used to think it was "uncool" to admit I believe in God. There are still certain people in my life that probably don't understand just how passionate I am about God, about His Son, although I'm trying my best to change that. I want to reflect my love of Christ not only through my words, but more importantly through my actions. But God doesn't promise that following Him will be easy.

Matthew 10:22 says "22All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. "

A lot of things have changed for me over the past year or so. By reading God's Word, I have grown much stronger in my faith. I truly feel like God has revealed His truth to me. I stand firm in my faith knowing that no matter what people throw at me, I can back it up with His Word. The way I see the world and everything in it has shifted. This has NOT been easy. But I can't focus on what others think of me...there's only one opinion I'm concerned about.

On Sunday, I'm going to be baptized as an adult. I am not great with words and I wish I could accurately express what this means to me. For the first time in my life, I have made a conscious decision to follow the Lord and I want to share that with everybody possible. Yes I've always believed in God, but this confirms a relationship with Him. This baptism is an expression of my faith, admitting my need for Christ and accepting His sacrifice for me. My desire is to walk with the Lord daily, to constantly seek His will and not my own. I am no longer afraid to tell people I am a Christian. One of my constant prayers is that all of my family and friends will one day be able to experience the same joy that He has brought to my life. Yes, it can be uncomfortable to follow Jesus Christ, but I can't imagine it any other way.

Our New Hangout

The Emergency Room has become our new hangout. Last Saturday (the 3rd) Ed went to the ER for severe abdominal pain...among other symptoms. Turns out he has an umbilical hernia. Then, just this past Friday night (the 9th), we went back to the ER because Ed was having such severe headaches and nausea. This is a big deal for him to go to the hospital because he absolutely hates them. The diagnosis? Rebound headaches from the pain medicine given the weekend before, as well as a side effects from the other medication they gave him. Lovely. But he's feeling better now, and that's what matters. Okay, two trips isn't really enough to consider the ER our new hangout......but I think three definitely qualifies. Edwin has been sick with the flu since Saturday. Vomiting, diarrhea, cough, stuffy nose, etc. My poor baby!!! His pediatrician's office was concerned about dehydration, so on Monday morning at 5am, we made our standard trip to the ER. Thankfully he did not have to get an IV and we were able to just take care of him back at home. He still isn't feeling the greatest, but at least he's not dehydrated. Now, on top of all that, I'm sick. Headache, fever, sore throat, stuffy head, etc. Let's all pray that Ed doesn't get it too!!!

Still Here

This will just be a quick post.....mostly because I love it when other people update their blogs, so I'm trying to return the favor. It's COLD here today!! Okay, maybe not in comparison to other places..such as Minnesota, but I am still cold. I think it's in the upper 30's or something like that. Anyway, we got back from our Ohio trip safe and sound. It was hard to say goodbye to Glenn and Jeanie, especially since we're not sure when we'll get to see them again. I really wish they'd move down here, but they have too many other family members up north. Maybe someday. We enjoyed Edwin's very first Halloween. He dressed up as a pumpkin!! Check out Katie's blog for pictures. I'll post some later too...but I don't have them on my computer right now. That's it for now. I told you it would be quick. Maybe tonight I can post some more. Have a great day!

Too Fancy For Me

I think I'm officially staying in the fanciest hotel I've ever stayed in. We came up to Cleveland tonight to see our friends Tom & Lauren (and their adorable boys Chase and Cole). Since we didn't want to have to drive all the way back to Akron tonight, we decided to stay in a hotel up here. For those of you who aren't familiar with Ohio, Cleveland is about 45 minutes from Akron. Anyway...Tom is the executive chef at the Marriott up here and he got us a room for the night. Not a big deal for him...but a big deal for me! Seriously. This room is so nice! It's got the most comfortable king size bed ever. Apparently their beds are so wonderful that you can now buy them. Yes. You can buy a hotel bed. It has sheets with more than a 150-thread count (in other words, they're super soft and not scratchy like normal hotel sheets)....an oversized down comforter....you get the picture. It's so fancy that there's even a real bath robe hanging in the closet. Oh yeah, and there's a coffee bar for my husband....and get this. They have stickers on the toilet paper. I thought that was hilarious. You know how they always fold the paper into a point? Well this place puts a fancy gold sticker with Marriott embossed on it. haha! Normally I probably wouldn't go into this much detail about a hotel room....but the one we stayed at for the last three nights doesn't even compare. And since my sweet exhausted baby boy is asleep in his pack 'n play, I just felt compelled to blog about it. Yup. I'm in my bath robe listening to K-love on my headphones, typing about our awesome room. Ooh, I almost forgot! Ed's friend Chris is the Sous Chef downstairs. He sent up a goodie basket for us....it's got all kinds of different drinks, trail mix, bananas, cereal for the morning, etc. I could get used to this! But alas. Our trip ends tomorrow. We're going back to Akron in the morning to hang out with his family some more. And tomorrow night around 7, we're taking off for North Carolina. Our goal is to have a repeat of our trip up here. You know, the trip when Edwin slept the whole way! I'll post lots of pictures once we get back home. I don't have to go back to work until Wednesday, so I'll have some time to recover. Have a great night!!

So Much to Catch Up On

Yup, it's been awhile since I've posted last. I kept meaning to do it...but everytime I thought I'd get around to it, something else came up. I'm sure I've used that excuse before! Anyway....there's a lot to catch up on. First of all, I'm typing this post from a hotel room in Akron, Ohio. Ed and I drove up here to visit his family since they haven't seen Edwin in about 6 months. Considering he's almost 7 months old....they've missed out on a lot. We left Wilmington last night around 9:30pm. Our original plan was to drive a little over halfway and then get a hotel room. We drove at night so that Edwin could sleep. Well.....when we finally got to the point that we wanted to call it quits, all of the hotel rooms were booked. That is, except for one hotel that was...let's just say..."nasty". And since they wanted to charge us $75 for about 5 hours, we said forget it. We kept on going and arrived in Akron around 9:00am. That's a long haul!! My dear sweet husband did the majority of the driving too. I managed to stay awake last night until just past Raleigh (2 hrs into the drive) and then conked out. At about 6:15 am, Ed finally threw in the towel and I took over the driving so he could sleep. Even though we were exhausted when we pulled into town, we couldn't make Grandma Jeanie wait any longer. A quick stop to Lowe's (where she works) to surprise her was quite fun. There were tears of course, but she was absolutely thrilled. After that, my prayers were answered when our hotel said we could have an early check-in. We napped for about 3 hours ....even Edwin slept!!.....and then made our rounds to see some more of the family. Back to Lowe's so Jeanie could show Edwin off...then to see Uncle Feets at his garage. We eventually ended up back at Jeanie & Glenn's house, where Grandma and Grandpa went crazy over our sweet little boy. I think we got back to the hotel around 8:00 for Edwin's bathtime. I watched last week's episode of Grey's Anatomy online (I brought the laptop & headphones) and Ed is still watching one of the Matrix movies on tv.

Wow. I think that's the most I've ever written in one post. But there's more!! Ed's magazine finally came out! I haven't seen the actual hard copy, but it's online. Coastal Carolina Dining pages 35, 48 & 49. I love the pictures!! Ed thinks that the one makes him look to cocky, but hey, he's the head chef! He should be proud of everything he's accomplished. I know I'm very proud of him. Check it out.

Ok, what else? Um....I'm off work for the next week, so that's pretty exciting. I'm still trying to decide what Edwin should be for his first Halloween. We have a bumble bee costume that was Anthony's.....but I call Edwin "punkin-head" (don't know where that came from) so I thought it would be cute if I dressed him like a pumpkin. Good thing I have a week to decide.

I could probably type all night. Now that I've had some sleep this afternoon...and it's only 9:30pm....I'm not sure what else to do. I can't read a book because we have all the lights off in the hotel room, trying to keep Edwin asleep. He's in his pack 'n play over by the bathroom. Let's keep our fingers crossed that he sleeps all night :)

Oh yeah! I remembered one more thing. Last week we took Edwin to Portrait Innovations to have his pictures taken. It was so much fun and the pics turned out great. We spent a little more (okay a lot more) than we originally planned, but we couldn't help it. One of the things included in the package was a cd of all the shots. These aren't the edited versions, but at least I can post some of them on here. Enjoy!! I'm probably going to watch another tv show online (abc.com rules!!). Later.

Pumpkins

This was sent to me as a forward in an email. I liked it, so thought I'd adapt it for my blog. Enjoy!

Being a Christian is like being a pumpkin.God lifts you up, takes you in, and washes all the dirt off of you. He opens you up, touches you deep inside and scoops out all the yucky stuff-- including the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc. Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside you to shine for all the world to see. Happy Fall!

Christmas and Lowe's

What do these two have to do with each other? I’ll explain. Last night, we went to Lowe’s Home Improvement (sorry DJ) to get a riding lawn mower for Ed.

We have a HUGE yard and it’s very difficult to mow because it’s about 90% weeds and the rest is sand. Anyway, Ed finally settled his motorcycle accident case so we’re taking a small portion and investing in a riding lawn mower. It takes Ed forever to do the yard and that takes away from what little time we spend together as a family. He’s thrilled to have a new toy, and I’m thrilled to be getting my husband back!

Anyway, while Ed was talking to the salesman about the benefits of one mower vs. the other, I took Edwin for a walk down the Christmas aisles. It was so fun to watch his expression as he looked at all of the lights on the display trees. We found one display of “modern” Christmas trees with giant lights that twinkled along with music. Edwin absolutely loved this! I realize he doesn’t really know what’s going on yet, but to know that we can start new family traditions as the Boso Family is so exciting! Plus, God has been working miracles in my life this year…I can’t wait to celebrate the birth of His son. What an amazing gift to the world. I just pray that people will remember the real reason for Christmas. It’s not about gifts, it’s not even about spending time with family (although that’s great). It’s about God fulfilling his promises to us. Oohh…I’m so excited!!!

The 4 Hour Haircut

No, you did not read that incorrectly. I'm talking about four hours sitting in a chair getting my haircut. Now before you start coming up with crazy images of Chinese water torture, let me explain. Because it really was a fun experience with a great result.

Whitney is a girl I met through a small group at church and she works at Steven Ward Hair here in Wilmington. On Sunday, she asked me if I'd be interested in being her "model" (I use that term loosely) for a hair-cutting class. I jumped at the chance for a free haircut! I had no idea that Steven Ward is apparently some big deal in the hair world. He's worked on tons of celebrities, had his hairstyles on magazine covers, etc. He was going to be teaching some of his employees new techniques for cutting hair.

So Monday after work, I arrived around 5:00pm. I told Whitney should could do whatever she wanted to my hair, as long as it wasn't super short (like hers) because my hubby would freak out. Then it was time for consultations. Steven went around with all of the other hairdressers (is that what they're called?) to discuss the different styles, hair textures, techniques, etc. I'd say this took about 45 minutes to an hour. Then it was time for shampoo. Ahhh..the best part of any haircut is definitely the scalp massage! Once the cutting officially began, there were several times that they all had to stop for a "lesson." I could not believe the attention to detail! Even after cutting my hair for over an hour, then blow-drying it for 30 minutes, she still went back for finishing touches. This was about another hour! But the results are totally worth it. I finally left around 9pm feeling like a new woman. I made Katie take a picture of it, but the photo doesn't do it justice. At work yesterday, I got so many compliments....from people I don't even know! I'll admit, I thought it was just a fluke....but this morning it continued. I'm so grateful that Whitney decided to ask me to do this. I feel so great!

Just a quick one

I don't have a lot of time (since I'm at work), but I just had to post this picture. It was taken about 2 months ago, but it's just so darn cute!! Basically, I'm going crazy at work today. Have you ever had one of those days when you just can't stand to be at work? I'm not talking about "gee I wish I was independently wealthy so I could do whatever I want". No, I mean "I can't sit still, these blue cube walls are making me insane, I'm just antsy". That's how I feel today. So I was looking at some old pictures and came across this one. Yes Edwin is much bigger now, but he still looks this sweet when he's sleeping. I love it!!

Saturday, September 22, 2007

Ahhhh Saturday....

I love Saturdays. It's (usually) the one day a week that I stay home with Edwin and just hang out. No driving to Wilmington, no dropping him off at daycare, nowhere that we have to be. Today was perfect. We napped, we played, we shopped (picked up a few things at Walmart)...and that's it! Actually, I hardly got anything done around the house because I spent the majority of the day with Edwin in my lap. If I sit with my knees bent, he kind of leans back on my legs and proceeds to eat his toys. He doesn't really play with them, just drools all over them. Definite quality time between mom & baby. I'm posting another video for you...while I was making my lunch of leftover lasagna, I put him in his swing. His new favorite thing to do is bang his butterfly toy on the tray to make lots of noise. Check it out..

Yay! It worked!!!

Check it out!! I figured out how to upload videos!! I took this one this morning....Edwin has been learning how to sit up on his own. I can't believe how big he's getting. Anyway, he's looking dapper in his monkey-pj's, "reading" his Baby Faces book. Okay, more like eating his book. But it's still a cute video. Now that I know I can upload movies, I'll definitely post more. Yay!!!! Enjoy. I'm going to go hang out with the real thing.

I can't think of a clever title

Sorry....my brain is a little mushy this morning. I don't know if you've heard, but the area where we live is in the middle of a drought. I think we're 19 inches "in the hole" when it comes to rain. Well I feel like I'm in the middle of a drought personally when it comes to sleep. It's not that I don't sleep at all. It's just that I can't remember the last time I actually slept a full 8 hours in a row. On Tuesday night, I got 6 hrs. Last night, barely 7. And that's not including the fact that I got up at 4:30 am to feed Edwin. Please don't get me wrong. I'm not blaming that sweet boy. I'm not blaming anybody. I actually like getting up with Edwin in the middle of the night because he's so cuddly in his pajamas and he holds my hand while he's downing his bottle. I think I'm just extra sleepy this morning because it's raining outside. I'm sure everyone can relate to this weather and the desire to curl up and take a nap all afternoon! Haha.

Okay, I'm done complaining about my sleep deficit. There's not a whole lot to update you on. Mom left super early this morning for Minnesota. Last night we all went to dinner at Bolero's (a cuban restaurant) and then to Target for a few things. Mom got to give Edwin his bath and spend a little extra time with him. Can't say that I blame her. He's the best!! We went home and I watched one of my favorite shows-Top Chef. Have you seen it? I can't imagine having to compete like they do, but I certainly enjoy watching the drama. Okay, well I'd better get to work. Yes, I'm at work. Shhhhhh.... Have a great day!!

Hello Pot? This is the Kettle. You're Black

I'll admit it. I love to go on other people's blogs to read what's new in their lives and I get extremely disappointed when they don't update very often. But I am guilty of doing the same thing!! So instead of making excuses about being too busy or too tired or too whatever, I'm just going to do it. Even if I have nothing more exciting to tell you than the fact that I got gas in my car, I'm going to post! You asked for it.....

The last time I wrote, I said I'd find out the name of the magazine that Ed is going to be in. Well, I'm a slacker and I still don't know the name. You'll find out when I send the article!! Haha. Sorry.

I have added a few new "favorite websites" to my blog. One of them is called "The Expectant Father". No, I'm not pregnant again. My friend Ashley is due in February and her husband decided to start a blog. It's a good read! The other new link is "Steve Fee". He is a Christian musician that played at our church this weekend. The song is called We Shine and it is soooo fun to listen to! I highly recommend it.

Okay, what else is new in my life? Well, I laughed my butt off this morning when I read Jenny's blog and saw dear David's creepy picture. I'm sure the people that sit around me at work think I'm insane. I'm always laughing. The research industry is not funny--so yeah, I'm sure they think I'm crazy, but I don't really care because I am crazy! I'm typing this blog during my lunch hour....Subway...Mmmm... I should be using my lunch hour to go to the gym, but since I didn't have any food at the house this morning to bring with me, I had to go out.

I'm including 2 pictures for you...mainly because they're the only new ones I have available on my work computer. The first one is Edwin in his carseat. Unfortunately you can't really see his adorable outfit, sent by Grandma Jeanie. But it's Winnie the Pooh and super cute. The second picture is the sight that greeted me when I got home last night. Evidently my son loves to sleep in our bed. He slept for 2 hours!! Well, I really can't think of anything else to tell anyone right now....but at least I posted. Until tomorrow..............

My Very Talented (and famous) Husband

Ed is going to be in another magazine!! I feel really bad because I can't remember the name of it exactly.....but it's something like "Coastal Cuisine" maybe? I'll check when I get home tonight and let you know for sure. But that's not what matters. What matters is that last week, they came to his restaurant to interview him and do a photo shoot. Yes, that's right. My husband who hates having his picture taken had to do a photo shoot for a magazine. But he said the pics turned out well, so that's good. When I got home last night, he said the people from the magazine called him back--they want to extend the article!! So he has to come up with a few more recipes, and they'll be back to take more pics. I'm so proud of Ed. Yes, the chef lifestyle is hard to deal with at times. He's almost guaranteed to work every holiday, every weekend, and almost every night. But he loves what he does, so that makes it easier to handle. Here's the link to where he works (the chef pictured on the website isn't him--it's his friend Rob) Island Vista. Anyway, I just had to share how famous my hubby is becoming. He's already been on a tv show and had an article in a different magazine. This is just one more thing to add to his impressive list!

They Got Me!!

The Vampires got me! I donated blood at work today....the American Red Cross parked their big ole' bus in our parking lot....I'm so happy that I didn't pass out! Haha. The one and only other time I ever donated blood was in college. I had gone with a friend of mine and we decided to "race"...trying to fill up our bags fastest. Well, I won the race, but I almost passed out. The little old ladies had to help me to a cot so I could lay down with my feet above my heart. None of that today. I gave my blood and then got to enjoy a delicious Coca-Cola. Mmmm!! Not to mention I played hookey from work for an hour and a half!!

Lazy, Busy, Cranky

That's how I'd describe this weekend. Let's start with Saturday:
LAZY
I like to take a break from driving, so on Saturdays, Edwin and I stay home. Usually I like to get some cleaning done and hit Walmart to stock up on groceries. Not this Saturday! We were sooooo lazy and it was wonderful. Edwin woke up around 5:30 to eat...after his bottle, he went back to sleep for another 3 hours and so did I. At 8:30 he woke up for round two and this time decided he wanted to play. Around 9:30 when Ed left for work, Edwin was acting fussy, as if he was tired again. I decided that I'd put him in my bed next to me--that way he could sleep and I could read my book. Well, he looked so nice and cozy that I decided to scoot down and lay right next to him. Next thing I know, it's noon!! Yes you read that correctly. We went back to sleep until noon. What a glorious day. For the rest of the afternoon, we played and hung out--we didn't even leave the house! Awesome. Now we move on to Sunday.

BUSY
On Sundays, I head up to Wilmington (with Edwin of course) so I can go to church. This week was no different. I got to Katie's house at 9:30 so she could take care of Edwin for me. Then I went to pick up mom and she accompanied me to church for the first time. I appreciated her going with me because it's a bit different than what she's used to (it's called Port City Community Church). After church we picked everybody else up and had lunch at La Costa. Mmm... Mexican! Anthony decided he wanted to hang out with Auntie Diana so he joined Mom, Edwin and me at Toys R Us. After stocking up on clothes for next summer, we went back to Mom & Dad's house. For dinner, Dad & Brian were going to have a rib cookoff. I invited my friend Deirdre from work to join the craziness. She hadn't met Edwin yet so they enjoyed getting acquainted. Wonder who won the rib contest? Sorry Pappy, but I think Brian took this round. Ed said he'll kick both of your you-know-what's next time :) After dinner, Edwin had a bath and we headed home. Busy busy day. And alas....Today.

CRANKY
No, that's not me. It was my poor little boy who is teething. He woke up at 1:30am and again at 6:30am. For the remainder of the day, he alternated between being sleepy and downright ticked off! I can't say that I blame him though. If I had something sharp cutting through my gums, I'm sure I wouldn't be in the best mood either. I did what I could for him--gave him some Tylenol, let him chew on his teether and gave him lots of lovin'. When we went to lunch with Mom & Dad, we put an ice cube in his burp cloth (clean of course) and let him chew on that. It seemed to help, so I bought this really cool contraption at Wal-Mart. It's a little mesh bag with a handle attached. You can put different things in it...maybe an ice cube, or a banana....basically it lets the baby chew on something without the risk of choking. I'll be giving that a try tomorrow. I finally got him to sleep for the night around 7:20. Let's hope he has a better day tomorrow.
So there's my weekend in a nutshell. A slightly bigger nutshell than usual, but I had to get it all in since I haven't posted in awhile. Here are some pictures that I've been meaning to post. Hope you enjoy!

Pappy taught Edwin a new trick. When we're feeding him, we say either "Open" or "More". Edwin opens his mouth wide for the next bite!

Edwin's new toy--a Johnny Jump-Up. Here he is at Grandma & Pappy's house. Look at his feet!

This outfit was given to Edwin by Grandma Jeanie. It's perfect for the beach baby!

I took this picture on Saturday. Every time Edwin rolled over, I'd run for the camera, but by the time I got it, he had rolled again. I finally caught him on his tummy.

My Very Own Provisions!!

For those of you who have visited us in North Carolina, I'm sure we've taken you to my favorite restaurant in Southport called Provisions. Held up against typical standards, it wouldn't be considered especially wonderful or anything....but to me, it's heaven. It's a tiny place set right on the water--you order your food as you walk in, then find a spot outside. There's just something about the atmosphere that's hard to explain. Basically, I feel like I'm on vacation as soon as I walk through the front door. There's a breeze off the water, overhead ceiling fans, Jimmy Buffett music playing. Oh and the food! Lot's of seafood of course, but I always get the cheeseburger and yummy onion rings. Anyway... Mom & Dad were going to visit Edwin and me this afternoon and we were going to have lunch at Provisions in Southport. Unfortunately, they missed the ferry by only 3 cars and ended up just coming right to our house. As a substitue, we decided to try going to Holden Beach for a change. After all, it's only about 5 minutes from us! There was a coupon in their ever-present coupon book for a place called Provisions. I didn't even connect the two names until we pulled up. Sure enough, the sign said Yacht Basin & Provisions. It was the same company!! They've been open since 2002 and this was the first I'd heard of it. So for those of you who've never been to Provisions, you probably think I'm crazy for devoting so much space in my blog to it...but I'm telling you--it's fantastic. And now I have one virtually in my back yard! Best part? They're open almost all year round, whereas the one in Southport closes for the winter. So get your butts down to North Carolina and I'll treat you to dinner at Provisions.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Edwin is 5 months old today! I know it's cliche to say it, but time goes by so quickly....it's hard to believe that 5 months and 1 day ago, I was ginormous and pregnant and miserable and cranky and wanting to see my baby. I much prefer this side of the coin. I love being able to hold my sweet boy...and to give him baths at grandma's house...and to put him in his pj's and cuddle him. And that's exactly what I did last night after we had dinner with the family. When I left for work this morning, he was still in his crib sleeping like an angel. Man, I never thought we'd get to the day when he'd go to sleep at 7:45pm and still be sleeping almost 12 hours later. Whew! Those early days were rough, but it's nice to know the sleep deprivation doesn't last forever. Anyway, I keep meaning to post updated pictures of Edwin, but by the time I get home at night, I'm too tired to do anything on the computer. Plus I have to get everything ready for the next day. So for now, go to Katie's blog (link at the right) to see the best picture ever!!

Just a quick one until I can post pics later

Who does he look like?

Everybody keeps telling me that Edwin looks just like his daddy....or he looks just like me. Well check this out!

Thursday, August 23, 2007

Hooray!!!

He slept through the night! Edwin that is.

Yesterday after work, I picked Edwin up from daycare and headed to Mom & Dad's house. Katie and I had to do a few things for my friend Ashley's baby shower on Saturday (sorry--no details because she reads this occasionally). After a delicious dinner cooked by Pappy, Edwin had his nighttime bath-with the help of Grandma and Anthony. As usual, he fell asleep on the car ride home, and continued to sleep when I transferred him to his crib. Normally, he wakes up at 2am, almost exactly. I'm very lucky because Ed feeds him, and then puts him back to bed. Well last night, there was no need. He slept through the night!!! This is a very big event...one that we hope will continue. So he woke up this morning at 6 to eat. After I fed him a bottle, I needed to get ready for work, so I put him in the bed next to Daddy. This is what I left this morning:

What an adorable little boy, huh? I can't wait to see him later today!

Yeah yeah yeah....I have some catching up to do

I have a 4 1/2 month old. Give me a break! Just kidding. I know I haven't posted in a few days...but here's the thing. I don't like to do it at home because our computer is slow and the monitor is blurry. I don't like to do it at work because..well..I should be working. But Katie gave me a hard time about it today, so I'm posting from my sloooow computer at home. I'll catch ya up on the last few days.

On Saturdays, I like to take a day off from driving up to Wilmington, so Edwin and I stayed home. We played a lot--he especially loves his new play-mat that used to be Anthony's. And it's perfect for me because he can entertain himself while I clean...and I don't have to worry about him going anywhere! Here's my highlight of Saturday. Around 2pm, Edwin was getting a little tired, but he just wouldn't give in and fall asleep. He had a full belly, a clean diaper...what more could a baby ask for? After trying all of my usual "tricks" to get him to sleep, I finally decided to try my big bed. I laid him on the bed and then crawled in right next to him. We played for a little while. Mostly he tried to grab my nose, but hey, it was fun! Edwin started to drift off...so I figured what the heck? I'll just take off my glasses and close my own eyes for a few minutes. All I had been hoping for was about 20 minutes, but an hour later, we finally woke up! I think that was probably the best nap I've ever had...curled up next to my sweet baby. That was my Saturday.

Sunday I dropped Edwin off with his Auntie Katie so I could go to church. The church has a daycare called Grow Zone, but since Katie (and Anthony) were excited to have him come over, how could I say no? For the rest of the day, we hung out with the family and had dinner at mom & dad's house. Typical weekend.

And today was back to work. Ooh, but Edwin had an exciting evening. He had real food tonight! Not just rice cereal--that's too boring. He had his very first vegetable. Green Beans. Mmmmm....pureed green beans...doesn't that just make your mouth water? Let me tell you. This kid went to town! He ate the entire container (2.5 ounces) and then proceeded to drink a whole bottle (6 ounces)!! Now for those of you who either don't have kids or it's been awhile since they were 4 1/2 months old, that's a LOT OF FOOD!! His little belly sure got big! A quick bath followed...then time for pj's and cuddling. We drove home, and that's where I'll leave you. Edwin is happily sleeping right now, dreaming sweet baby dreams. The dishwasher is running, my gym bag is packed for tomorrow, it's time for me to go relax. Until tomorrow.......

Who could ask for more?

Seriously. I think I am one of the luckiest, most blessed people in the whole world. This picture says so much:

These are "my boys". My husband Ed...who I've been married to for a little over a year now. We've gone through a lot already, and continue to do so. But no matter what, we love each other. Then there's our sweet sweet baby boy Edwin. I honestly can't remember what the heck we did without him! He's only 4 months old, but has brought joy to my life that I never imagined. He has the best personality--always laughing and smiling. The only time he gets cranky is if he's tired or hungry. And who of us out there can claim we don't do the same?!!

Well, I have the privilege of being home this afternoon with Edwin. My hubby had to go to work (he'd normally be off today) because one of his co-workers is getting married this weekend and they have a huge party to prep for. Anyway, I had to take the afternoon off to take care of Edwin. Gee, what a hardship! He had just eaten when I got home, so he was ready to play. His new favorite toy is from Auntie Katie--it's a monkey in case you can't tell in the pictures.

After some serious play-time, Edwin got a little tired, so he's sleeping right now...that's the only reason I had time to post this! I'm going to go enjoy the rest of my afternoon off.

I love my birthday!

I've always loved my birthday. I'm not one of those people that gets all freaked out about getting older. Granted, I'm only 28, but some people flip out when they hit 25! Anyway, yesterday I got to work and had a nice surprise. Katie had gotten me a bouquet of flowers with a Happy Birthday balloon attached. Several people from work got me cards too. (check out the pics). After work, we went to Outback for dinner. I was sooo happy that my husband was able to join us. He usually works Wednesdays, but was able to be off this week. So it ended up being me, Ed, Edwin, Mom, Dad, Katie & Anthony. Brian was busy getting electrocuted (I'll let Katie explain), so he couldn't make it. We had a great dinner....then headed back to mom & dad's so Edwin could get a bath before going home. By most people's accounts, this wasn't the most "exciting" or "extraordinary" birthday. But to me, it meant the world. I was able to celebrate with my favorite people that know me and love me...I couldn't ask for anything more!

Uh...how does this work?

So it seems that everybody in the world has a blog of some sort. Or a webpage....or a myspace page...whatever. Until today, I've had no urge to jump on the bandwagon. But here I am--wait for me guys! I want to play! Yes, I'm going to attempt this whole blog thing. I haven't been very good at updating Edwin's totsite website, but maybe I can stick to something like this. Yes, I'll admit I'm copying Katie and Jenny. And most likely they'll be the only ones reading this, but it's still fun. Besides, I take millions of pictures of my sweet baby boy all the time, now I'll have somewhere to put them! This adorable picture was taken by my fabulous hubby last Thursday. Ed gets to stay home with Edwin on Tuesdays and Thursdays so they can have their "manly bonding" time.

Okay, so there you have it. My very first blog entry. That wasn't so hard after all!! Now if I can just make myself keep it up. Stay tuned.......
